As a psychotherapist/Counsellor for thirty three years, and having engaged with the Masters in Mindfulness Based Interventions at UCD in 2014, Carmel has engaged with her own mindfulness meditation for many years. She has facilitated eight week MBSR and MBCT programmes at Oscailt Centre, 8 Pembroke, Rd, Dublin 4. Carmel views mindfulness practice as being hugely supportive in empowering people to manage addictive cravings, anxiety, and depression and also in supporting those in recovery from physical illnesses and doing with chronic long term illness. The eight week programme of MBCT is especially helpful in supporting those who have had treatment for anxiety/depression/addictions and who wish to cultivate resources to stay well and to manage life’s inevitable challenges. She also alongside other mindfulness practitioners facilitates the drop in Mindfulness session at Oscailt Centre every Tuesday. Carmel also runs Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention Programmes (MBRP) currently at Stanhope Addiction Centre Dublin for those who are six months or more in recovery and she also works as a mindfulness practitioner with those in very early stage recovery at the same centre. At ARC house Cancer Support on South Circular Road Dublin Carmel facilitates a weekly hour long drop in mindfulness session for those managing a diagnosis of or in recovery from a cancer diagnosis and for their carers. She is also now running six week courses on line through ARC house on Cultivating Inner Resilience through Mindful Awareness in Recovery from Cancer. Carmel is also available for one to one mindfulness consultations at Oscailt where she also has a clinical psychotherapy practice for individuals, couples and families, and she is available for contracting to work with different agencies for mindfulness workshops. She also adheres to the Mindfulness Teachers Best Practice Guidelines and is a full member of MTAI.
