Pat holds a Masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy and has over 30 years experience in meditation, training and public speaking. His interest in mindfulness saw him complete an MSc in Mindfulness Based Interventions in UCD.
With a specific interest in the delivery of mindfulness in the workplace, Pat completed a two year programme, which was delivered jointly by the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice (CMRP) in Bangor and the Oxford Mindfulness Centre (OMC), which culminated in him being part of the first group from the CMRP and OMC to be successfully assessed in competency to teach mindfulness in the workplace. Pat has also completed training on the delivery of Finding Peace in a Frantic World with Chris Cullen, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Life with Paul Bernard and has also been trained in the use of the MBI - TAC with Rebecca Crane and Trish Bartley. He has received training in Paws B and Dot B programmes for teaching mindfulness to children through the Mindfulness in Schools Project in the UK.
Pat is co-coordinator and teaches on the UCC Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Mindfulness Based Practice and Research ( https://www.ucc.ie/en/ace-pcmbp/ ) This programme supports students to deepen their own personal mindfulness practice. He is coordinator of the UCC teacher training MSc programme on Mindfulness Based Wellbeing (https://www.ucc.ie/en/ace-mscmbw/). Pat has delivered many mindfulness training interventions to staff from both the public and private sector in relation to personal practice, mindfulness in organisational settings and on the role of mindfulness in developing wellbeing and resilience.
Pat is also a senior HR specialist and has a Masters in Leadership and Change Management from Sheffield Hallam University, a Higher Diploma in Personnel Management from UCC and a Post Graduate Diploma in Coaching Supervision through the department of Psychology in Leeds Beckett University. Pat is a chartered member of the Institute of Personnel and Development and is currently completing his Doctorate in the use of Mindfulness in Coaching and Mentoring.
