John Peelo

Social Work/Marte Meo therapist, MBSR Mindfulness Teacher.

Currently I am enjoying retirement from being  Social Work Manager from Tusla Child and Family Agency  after 30 years of service. My main role was managing a Family Resource Centre in Ballymun for 20 years and then a Neighbourhood Youth and Family Project in the North Inner City Dublin for 10 years. The main aim of the Project I manage is to support the most marginalised and vulnerable children and family. The project was set up to help keep children in their communities and prevent them from entering the State Care System.

I am currently working with the Irish Centre for Mindfulness and Compassion offering MBSR and mindfulness courses in Prisons in Ireland.

About John

Approach, Philosophy and Specialisation

Key training and skills I have developed over the year which I have valued most in my work are Mindfulness, Marte Meo Communication Therapy, Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and NVR (Non-Violent Resistance Parenting Training), I have also done Training in Dialogue and Restorative Practice.

As well as working directly with children and families I work closely with and support the development of local interagency networks. I chair the Local YPAR (Young People at Risk) Mental Health and Wellbeing Working group and I also sit on the Government Task Force Working Group supporting the Alignment of all service in the community.

I have a strong commitment to social justice and equality. The above Training supports me working with a Non-Judgemental Systemic Approach. I value the children and families I work with most of whom have experienced ACE’s. Adverse Childhood Experiences. I firmly believe and have had the privilege to experience, children and adults who are treated with dignity, care and compassion will thrive if offered equal life chances and opportunities.

I had the privilege of Volunteering with Dublin Simon Community as a Co-Worker in the Night Shelter.

I worked as a Supervisor in the Irish Wheelchair Association for 3 years before starting my Social Work Training.
