About Fionnuala
Approach, Philosophy and Specialisation
I have had a personal meditation practice for the past four decades, and my life-long devotion to embodied presence has shaped my life and my work. A protracted period of living with chronic health challenges has been a deeply informative and humbling experience, that has carved an deeper understanding of presence and compassion into my being. I am grateful to have the opportunity to share these gifts with others. I am particularly interested in the interface of awareness, compassion and embodiment, in service of life lived fully and consciously, and I weave all three elements into the all the work I do with individuals and with groups.
Professional Background
Before becoming a mindfulness teacher, I worked as a professional musician (singer and harper) for twenty years. My degree in Psychology lead me into the healing arts, and my training as a mindfulness teacher brought my love of creativity and healing together. I became a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Qigong teacher in 2025 and greatly appreciate bringing all these healing arts forms (creativity, movement, presence, stillness) together in my work.
Teaching Experience and Personal Mindfulness Practice
I have been teaching MBSR since 2010 and have also taught many short courses and introductions to mindfulness and compassion over the years. Most of my mindfulness work has been with the general public and children. In recent years I am doing more work with those living with health challenges. I have been blessed to have amazing mindfulness supervisors in my career, who have informed my work and offered such deep support. This personal experience of the power and importance of regular supervision/mentoring lead me to train as a mindfulness supervisor, and this is an aspect of my work that I really love. Along with my daily commitment to ‘turn up’ and ‘tune in’, I work with a meditation teacher and attend silent retreats every year to support my personal practice and my work. At the moment I am studying the teachings of Rob Burbea and SoulMaking Dharma.
